How to Change your
Password
(Macintosh
Users)
- Dial up EOS as
you normally would.
- Once connected
to EOS, launch your Telnet application. If you do not
have a Telnet application, you can download it from the
University
of Illinois.
- NCSA Telnet
does not initially open a window. To begin, select "Open
ConnectionÉ" from the File menu.
- A "dialog box"
will appear. Type "eos.net" in the Host/Session Name
field, & click on the Connect button.
- A "terminal"
window will appear, and the Sun Sparcstation at EOS will
prompt you for your user name & also your
password.
- Once you have
supplied your correct user name & password, you will
be able to run any available command from the UNIX
operating system. The command you will be using is called
"passwd", which of course changes your
password.
- Type in the
command "passwd", and then the Return key.
- Type in your
current password, and then the Return key. If you make a
mistake, go back to step 7.
- Type in your
new password. You will need to make the new password at
least 6 characters, and it should be different than your
current password.
- The system
will ask you to re-enter your new password to make sure
you typed it correctly.
You're done! Type
"exit" and then the Return key to close your UNIX terminal
session, and then Quit the Telnet application.
